Dare to Shop !! - A Vintage Journey

Hi Everyone, lovely to have you stop by my blog today to see my very first post with A Vintage Journey and if you are new to my blog .... welcome.

This fortnight Anne (Redanne) has chosen the challenge Halloween - To Die for. This was no surprise to me as I know it is her favourite time of the year and having never made anything Halloween before I was super excited to get started.

Ideas and techniques of Tim's have been flying around my head quicker than a Witch on a Broomstick.

My Inspiration for this piece came from thinking about all the different textures around at Halloween. Pumpkins, Broomsticks, Skulls, Ghosts and Scaredy Cats to name a few. I now knew I wanted to use Tim's techniques for texture through stencils, altering metal and glass embellishments and his inking techniques we all adore to bring my inspiration to life. So grab yourself a Witches Brew and I will take you through my Spooky Journey.

I picked up a black frame at my local Bargain Shop, sanded it around the edges adding distress inks and reversed it to use as a shadow box. I cut out a piece of White Cardstock to fit and stamped and embossed my Skeletons with clear embossing powder for a resist technique. I then added distress over my page.

I sprayed water onto my stamp and stamped onto my page letting it absorb on the page for a few seconds, I then blotted to reveal a lighter ghosting effect. I now re-stamped onto these areas using the same stamp and added some Black Soot through my Shatter stencil.

I stamped my Spider and Happy Halloween in Archival ink adding a little Glossy accents onto my Spider. I placed it into my frame and added Gun Metal Stickles right around the perimeter.

My Crows Skull I added Grunge Paste to it for texture, once dry and a little paint had been added I then highlighted the bumps with Black soot.

My Cockroaches were painted with Black Gesso, I then sprayed with some mica spray and added a little gilding wax to highlight. I love how creepy they look. My other metal embellishments had a little paint rubbed on and off the way Tim demos his Faux Metal Technique. My spiders had a little stickles added onto their bodies.

My bottles all had crackle paint, alcohol inks and remnant rubs added, along with another product which is key to this effect, but out of respect for Tim's new book you will need to check it out on Page 54 of CC3C how to do it.

My dust over the bottles and scene was made by mixing up Grunge Paste with Pumice Stone Distress paints. I let this dry overnight on a card and sanded off my dust in the morning and applied to areas with a little Multi Medium. I love the effect it gave on my bottles and webs.

My webs were white cheesecloth which I teased out of shaped and added Black Soot Distress Paint, dried with my heat gun which then gave it a firm feel.

My Witches Spell book I took inspiration from the front covers of Tim's Books. They are great fun and only take about fifteen mins to make. The link is Here on how to make them.

My Pumpkin skeleton head was a metal embellishment which I painted and Glossy accents were added along with a little ribbon.

My light was made using Tim's Light bulbs. I used the same technique as on my bottles, glued it into a cabochon and added a little ribbon and my skull head.

My pharmacist was stamped in Black Archival ink and clear embossing ink added. I find this an easier way to cut out something intricate as the paper stays more rigid. I coloured him with Copics and using Red Geranium Archival Ink and PaperArtsy MN72 I applied his blood marks. Do you see the skeleton's hand. BOO !! ....sorry I couldn't resist Lol.

Hope you are still managing to stay with me....My Pharmacists sign, I glued coffee stirrers on to a piece of card stamped in black ink and embossed with clear powders, distressing the edges and adding my dust.

My broomstick was made from a barbecue skewer and twigs.

Now my cupboard. My bottles were stamped, coloured, glossy accents and crackle paint applied.

Can you see the Skeleton and the Spiders web in the corners ?

My shelves were made from Balsa Wood.

My doors are from heavy card stock. All had Grungepaste added through the Woodgrain Stencil and painted.

I then replaced my Stencil back on and used Prima Clear Crackle paste. once dry I highlighted with some more distress inks.

My hinges are a Cheery Lynn die cut to which I swiped through Distress stains. Once dry I sprinkle a little Distress Powders along with some clear and Verdigris for an aged look.

Hope you have enjoyed my post and sorry it is so long.
