Adventure is Worthwhile - Step by Step Tutorial

Hi everyone, today for my DT post at Cheery Lynn Designs I am sharing with you all a step by step mixed media project on a 5" x 7" Artist Canvas Board using more of the fabulous Dies from the newly released Vintage Collection, so let's get started.

When I was deciding the composition on my canvas I first placed my Dies roughly where I wanted them and once I had decided on the placement I cut them all out from Cereal Box card. Cheery Lynn Dies always cut beautifully with this substrate and it helps to give more texture on a mixed media project when paints and mediums are applied. You will also notice on the Hot Air Balloon I cut the Balloon section from corrugated card.

Next I added Black Gesso to my die cuts and whilst still wet I sprinkled over Embossing powders for texture and a rust effect, heat setting in place.

Next I placed my die cuts back on my board to help me decide what colours I would make my balloon and wings. You will also notice at this point I had highlighted the texture on my cogs with some Gilding wax in a Renaissance Gold.

The wings were coloured with a Silver Alcohol Marker, touches of Gilding Wax and a Clear Glitter Pen to add touches of sparkle.

For my balloon I added Gilding Wax over the corrugated card. The outer part I added Black Gesso and a dark brown to the basket..

My ballon was glued together adding the cogs and a chain from an old necklace which was attached with brads for extra detail and a steampunk feel.

I now started to work on my background, gluing the negative parts of the Distress honeycomb die onto my canvas.

I added a selection of Acrylic paint onto my canvas starting with darker colours at the top. My plan was to have an ombré look of dark going to light and in colours that look similar to a landscape.

I loaded my flat paintbrush up with a lot of water and brushed the paint through from one side to another, making sure my paintbrush had plenty water on it to blend the paints easily.

Once dry I started to add some stamping with a Cogs Stamp and Grey Archival Ink, adding touches of Gilding Wax around the outside of my frame and onto the small corrugated pieces of card.

Now onto the fun part of seeing all the elements come together as I glued them into place. You will notice I also added some extra cogs onto the frame, keeping some complete and others cutting into sections.

My Penny Farthing I added Gilding Wax at the spokes on the wheels and cogs in to the centres. Finishing with a fun sentiment from Chit Chat Stickers.

Steampunk Valentine

Hi Everyone, for my DT post at Cheery Lynn Designs this week I made a Valentine card with a Steampunk twist to tie in with their Challenge - Sweethearts ' Add a Heart '

You will see on this photograph how I cut my first layer in red card adding the Gear dies, layering some to the front and some behind. I cut a lot in half as new this was the area that was only going to be seen on my card.

The next layer showcases two of our new dies which you can position anywhere on your card, the choice is yours.

I added my steampunk corners to the sides, layering on more Gears and adding a little Stencilling with inks onto my paper. See how the die cuts really pop mounted onto the red card.

My Stampotique images were kindly given to me by my blog friend Donna from Inky and Quirky. I fussy cut the figures out and coloured with Copic pens - aren't they cute !

My Hearts and Arrows were cut out in Red, Black and White Cardstock, you will see how I paper pieced the layers back together which adds dimension and a shadow effect.

My sentiment was a sticker in my stash.

Flowers in a Cart

Hello everyone from sunny Scotland, and a warm welcome to my new followers. I hope you are all managing to get some creative time.

My mojo has been running on full power over the past week so I now have a few things being prepared to post. Do you remember my post - Flowers on a Log, if not you will see it here. Anyway, in my head I have a couple of variations of this project planned, but have been awaiting the perfect challenge or GD spot to make them. Finally, this month Our Creative Corner and A Vintage Journey and various other challenges listed below, fitted my idea perfectly for one of them. My post is photo heavy so will try to keep my writing to a minimum so if there is anything you would like to know please just ask.

I started off by making a rectangular box with my Scorpal, and then yes my favourite item the coffee stirrer sticks were given a coat of Gesso and PaperArtsy paints and crackle glaze were applied to them. Next, I glued them onto the sides of my box, once dry I then glued my box together and applied a little distress to the edges and added my little hinges which had been die cut in kraft, distress and little rust marks stamped on, finally adding black liquid pearls for the nails.

My wheels were die cut out with a cereal packet and 5 layers glued together. I applied distress paint and distress ink around the edges. Once all dry I used my crop a dile to punch a hole in the middle, added my die cut cog rubbed with a little treasure gold. I then cut down a barbecue skewer and placed my wheels on either end, hot gluing to my cart and adding another couple of sticks to the front to form my tow bar. I put a little hessian in my box to give it more of a Tim Holtz feel, but you only see little bits of it now the flowers are in it.

My flowers and leaves are all die cut out from various dies using kraft white and patterned paper. My kraft and white flowers had distress stain added to the paper the way Tim demonstrates in his videos, spraying a little water on to them and stamping with some distress ink. I then scrunched my flowers and let them dry in the sunshine.... Yes I did say sunshine and not heat gun lol, finally spraying a little glimmer mist on too.

My leaves we're made in the same way adding inks and stains, but I also double embossed with embossing powder some leaves to give a nice shiny look. Cheery Lynn's leave dies have veins in them and I find when you add the stains it starts to pool in the veins which I love.

I die cut out my bunting and stamped the word flowers and distressed the edges. I put the wording on both sides so my project can be appreciated a full 360 degrees. Barbecue skewers were painted with distress and rolled over a word stamp with archival ink to give more texture. My ribbons were made from an old sheet which I had saved a length of. I ripped 3 sections and placed into a diluted solution of distress stains and scrunched up to dry with my heat gun.

Time for Dad.

Hello there blogging friends and a warm welcome to my new followers. It's my day to share my post over at Cheery Lynn designs and the challenge this week is Make it Manly and with Father’s Day fast approaching here in the UK, I thought it would be nice to share a masculine card with you.

 I cut out the Steampunk Clock in black cardstock and also in gold mirri card. I then paper pieced elements together to make the workings of the clock stand out. I rubbed over my mirri card with a little Archival Ink to give it an aged appearance. The clock die comes with a background circle die too, which is a great idea as it really sets your clock off and makes it ‘pop’ on the page. I cut my background out with kraft paper and added a little crackles and distress.

The new Steampunk Corners are a fabulous accent to a card or scrapbook page. I cut mine out in black cardstock and rubbed a little gilding wax over to give a metallic look and complimented them with the gears die on my card which were also cut out in mirri card.
